Winner winner....dots for dinner....

The dots on dots blog hop has sadly come to an end. I was happy to get lots of great feedback from lots of new people. I still haven't figured out how to number my comments or get the random number generator from random.org to show up on my blog. I used my husband as a random number generator and he choose #23. If I didn't count wrong the winner is....

I love the neutral block all by itself, and would never have thought to add the dots -- what a POP! I am a new follower!

I have sent off an email, so please get back to me with your mailing address and you will have dots coming your way.
WINNING!!!!

If I counted wrong I apologize to whomever I shafted....

Sandra at Sharp Quilts brought this swap to my attention and I couldn't resist. The cut off is today so hurry hurry hurry.....

I'm off to cut squares.....

Gabby's Stars

My step daughter Gabby has decided that a trip to our local Ben Franklin's is a treat. So much so that she willingly cleans her room and makes her bed. I haven't had the heart to break it to her that it is also the closest quilt shop and chances are we will be going there whether she wants to or not. On one such trip there she decided that she wanted me to make her a quilt for Christmas. She decided on Red and Blue for the colors. She hates pink though so I have to make sure there are no pinkish reds. I decided to go with an 8 point star/sawtooth star block pattern with different centers. Here is what I have accomplished so far.

Don't forget about the two giveaways still going on for Blogger's BOM Kick Off and the Dots On Dots Blog Hop become a follower and leave a comment.

Happy Hump Day!

I have also started a Flickr group to show off all the pretties you make.

The first blogger is Carin from Margaret's Hope Chest. Carin is the nicest person you would ever want to meet and gives of herself endlessley to organize the making of charity quilts for those in need. I was able to meet her in person at the end of the summer sewing party that she sponsored. In conjunction with her volunteering to be the first blogger in this blog hop she is also collecting these blocks to make charity quilts. You can send them to her address found on her Blogger Block of the Month post or to my address at the bottom of this post. Make sure to dig in your stash and make a couple for her charity. It gives you that warm fuzzy feeling inside.
The block she is sharing with us is called "Fun in the middle" This block involves some fussy cutting and should come together really quick. Although I am not a super fan of fussy cutting it did give me a reason to stash dive and I found some great prints I hadn't found a use for. This is a great block for an I spy quilt for the little one in your life.
To kick off the blog hop and to help you get started on your blocks I am giving away TWO count them TWO prize packs to lucky winners. The prize pack includes 4 fat quarters in pastel colors to make some fun blocks as well as 10 4" fussy cut middles (including some psycho cats). To win become a follower and leave a comment below. Give away will be open until midnight on Friday Sept 21st. I am looking forward to seeing what you make. Enjoy the Hop!

Dots on Dots Blog Hop

This is the block I made for the dots on dots  blog hop. I used neutral fabrics for my background in various widths of strips. I cut 1.5, 1.75 and 2 inch strips. I paired like width strips, sewed them together, then cut 12.5 inch strips to create the background. I cut out various circles of dotty fabrics and wonder undered them to the background block. I hand stitched these since the machine wasn't working out for me. The final block needs a press and sadly i'm not in a position to do it. I am giving away the fat quarter pack of dotty fabrics below,  become a follower and leave a comment. Check out the other bloggers on the blog hope today.

Thank you to all who provided comments on the block. The winner of the give away will be selected the day after the end of the dots on dots blog hop (Sept 21st) Sometime in the near future I am planning on making more of these, or making this one into a pillow.

Pimp My Stash Prize Pack

I put together the fabric prize for the pimp my stash fabric giveaway. The winner was Carla of Grace and Favour. She said that her fabric stash lacked orange. The following 5 fat quarters from my stash are on the way to her to pimp her stash. Enjoy Carla!

A bed for beagles.....

I have been keeping plenty busy over the last week or so. I had hoped that since I was going to be working from home last week that I would be able to sew sew sew. Sadly I didn't as much as I wanted done as is per usual.
We have a winner for a pimp my stash give away. Carla was the first to respond and is the lucky winner. A group of orange fabrics will be headed off to her.
The 1st installment of the Blogger Block of The month is starting on 9/15.
I have been working on my dots on dots block coming up next week. I don't want to spoil the surprise but I am happy with how it came out and will be posting a tutorial. The blog hop starts on 9/10, I am scheduled for 9/12. I will be publishing a tutorial of my block as well as giving away a dotty prize pack.
I have been working on a quilt for my step-daughter. I vowed I would not start any new projects until I finished some up. I failed on that front. Oh well, here are some pictures of how the blocks are coming.

Finally tonight it was raining outside and the dogs got all wet. I figured now was as good a time as any to wash the dogs and finish up the new doggie bed for their crate. My dogs have a bad habit of killing dog beds from fluffing them to find a good spot or too many trips through the washer. This project was born of the remains of several dog beds, some pillows past their prime, fabric and thread shreds, and an old sheet I bought at goodwill. Turned out pretty good and the dogums seems to like sleeping on it. I am off to sleep myself. Nighty night all.

Bed is nice, but it doesn't make up for the bath.....

Pimp My Stash - And A Give Away

So I got home last night to my latest box of goodies from The Fat Quarter Shop. This is the second box I have bought of mystery fabric from the Fat Quarter Shop but this is not the only location I have bought "mystery" bundles from. It's ok to say that I have issues when it comes to mystery bundles. I have been sucked in by fat quarter bundles, scrap bundles, but this is the first time I have been wamboozled by the pound. I do enjoy the fabric from this site and the mystery boxes are the same awesome quality. It doesn't hurt that the 12 pounds of fabric is 20-25 yards of fabric. At $56 dollars for the bundle plus $10 shipping it works out to about $3.00 a yard. Where else can you get quilt shop quality fabrics for this price??? This is what came in the mail for me. The box contains pieces that are WOF, some pieces as small as an eighths of a yard to upwards of almost a yard long.

On the quilting front I finished up this quilt for Elizabeth's new foster baby. I started with rag quilts when I started quilting. I can crank out flannel rag quilts pretty quickly at this point and I can snip the seams while I am traveling. I finished the seem snipping and washed it at the hotel. I intended the quilt to have the owl print along the diagonal when I laid it out. Somehow when I sewed it together the dark pink ended up in that spot. Who knows what happened. I shouldn't sew when I'm drunk (kidding). I think I was just really tired and mixed up the rows. Which is how two of the owl prints ended up next to each other on the raggy side. Oh well it turned out cute and will be comfy.

Finally I spent the day trying to clean and reorganize my sewing room. I had great plans of getting sooooo much done today. I never get as much done as I planned. While I was folding fabric I was seeing that I have so much fabric. It is definitely time for a fabric diet. With that in mind I am also sponsoring a give away to help slim my stash and pimp yours. To participate become a follower and leave a comment as to what areas your stash needs some help. Do you have a project in mind that you need fabrics for, so you have a big lack of one color in your collection, are you in desperate need of dots? Leave a short description of what you need  to pimp your stash (particular color/solids/favorite designer/novelty prints/christmas) and I will pick out a stack of fabric and send it off to the winner. Leave your comment before Tuesday night (9/4/12). Happy labor day weekend one and all!
